2 / Volume 12, June 2013 Sourcing Bali News

Welcome to yet another addition of Sourcing Bali News.

I must apologise for the delay in sending this edition.  Things have been crazy here, with business returning to 2010/2011 levels with a bang.   The entire team is working at full speed, and we have lots of orders underway.

In this edition of Sourcing Bali News, I bring you updates on some of our most recent projects, some details of new suppliers, news of what's happening with Bali and changes to Indonesian export laws for timber in 2014, as well as updates on what's been happening with the crew.

So, despite my tardiness, I do thank you for your tremendous support - we are indeed very grateful and we look forward to a successful remainder of the year.

Warmest regards,
Desmond and Crew

new products to the site

I am pleased to share some details of some of the newest products that we have recently loaded to our site.

We are selective about what items we load.  Often, a great deal of what we source is customised, and is not for general use, or it has no relevance to anyone other than the purchaser.  We do however have a library of hundreds of thousands of images in our data base and we access these when customers visit our office for ideas.

We look forward to updating you as we expand our database .. in the meantime, enjoy reviewing some of our more recent uploads and do let me know if you have any questions desmond@sourcing-bali.com

Enameled Lava Stone

It's not often that we get this excited about a new product that we find, but this one is worth the wait.  We have found the most wonderful ENAMELED coated lava stone products made here in Bali by a very creative French owned business.  These very high quality products will be a stunning addition to any home or commercial installation and the possibilites are almost limitless.

We have samples in our office of wash basins, vanity tops, kitchen bench tops, table tops, pestle and mortar as well as some small accessories and decorative items.

The finish of the enamel is durable, hard wearing, food safe, and stain proof.  We LOVE IT and we think you will too.  Here are some of the examples that we have sourced.  For more information, please email me at desmond@sourcing-bali.com

laminated hand finished timber flooring

We are very excited about this new product - this new factory in Java is producing these handfinished laminated floor boards in a wide range of finishes and colours.  The results are stunning and the prices are very affordable.

The process of the construction with vertical lamination instead of horizontal, gives added strength and durability to the boards.  The hand finishing gives it an authentic traditional appearance - everyone who sees these samples in our office loves them.

Prices start from as little as US$59 per meter - depending on finish and quantity.  For more information, please visit our showroom or email robert@sourcing-bali.com

Mastercard and Visa

We can FINALLY accept credit card payments remotely - recently relaxed rules associated with trading companies being able to accept Mastercard and Visa means that we are now able to process payments online.

We do still require photocopies of card, back and front, as well as foto ID and signed approval of charges, but at least this service is now available.

For Details on how to make payments via Mastercard, Visa or Amex - please email Sheny@sourcing-bali.com

Certification of Wood for Export

Effective January 1st, 2014 - it will become necessary for ALL EXPORTERS of timber products to produce certifciation of origin of timbers for export.  This new law which comes into full effect in 6 months time will have significant ramifications for exporters and manufacturers from Indonesia.

Few exporters know of these law changes and even fewer manufacturers are aware of the forthcoming tsunami of challenges that these revisions will bring.  If you have previously been to Bali, you will have seen the thousands and thousands of roadside businesses selling timber furniture and accessories - often small family run businesses.  In 2014, if these businesses do not comply with the new regulations of obtaining certification, it will not be possible to export any of these items.

Sourcing Bali is one of a handful of companies who have already obtained certification.  We have also encouraged 25 of our top suppliers to process theirs.  If, after 2014, a supplier is non compliant, these goods cannot be legally exported.

Currently this law applies only to building materials such as doors, windows, gazebos etc, however the law expands to all timber products effective from January 2014.   We are not looking forward to these changes, since it will create inevitable backlogs in paperwork and adminsitration delays, however we fully support the need for certifying timbers and ensuring sustainable forestry in Indonesia.

We will keep you updated on this as we get closer to 2014.

Ramadan - Idul Fitri - Holidays

The fasting month of Ramadan will commence on the 9th of July.  Many factories in Bali and Java are already full in the weeks leading up to the holidays in Early August.  Port closures for shipping will commence in early August, so orders need to be finsihed any shipped from Bali in the last week of July.

The end of the fasting month is Idul Fitri (Eid) on 8th and 9th of August.  This is a very special time for moslems. For most, this will mean a return to their family homes to visit families and friends. Many businesses throughout the country will be closed for 2-3 weeks over this time, our office will be closed 8 & 9th.

Ports within Indonesia will re-open approx 1 week after.  If you have any questions regarding orders or port closures over this period, please email me at desmond@sourcing-bali.com

Hi Desmond,

A quick email to let you know we think your team provide a great service. I went on a buying trip wit Ayu in October last year and selected assorted pool furniture, urns and a daybed and had the cushions and mattresses made.  Everything  arrived on Friday via BRINT in Melbourne.

Ayu did a fantastic job, communication at all stages was terrific, the packing was great and well labelled. BRINT were also very professional.  We were only a small order and it all looked a bit daunting having never done anything like this before it was all made very easy.

I have sent an email to Ayu as well.

Thanks again and well done, a well run business.

Wishing you future success in your ventures Yours Sincerely, Robin Veitz.

Staff Anniversary Party

It was with great pride that we recently celebrated our 12th anniversary of Sourcing Bali / Rim Cargo.   To commemorate this special occasion, the entire crew of both SB and Rim enjoyed a fun filled 'WET AND WILD' white water rafting by Sobek Rafting at Karangasem in the east of Bali.

This was the second time that we had rafted, but this was a different river, a different company and a very different experience.  The river  was LONG, FUN and very exhausting with nearly two hours of rafting over hundreds of rapids.  We all agreed, it was a GREAT day out, but there were many sore arms and butts the next week.

We thank you all for your support that enables us to share these experiences with the crew.  (and special thanks to Sobek for taking such good care of us)
