1 / Vol 8 - Feb 2009 Sourcing Bali News

We are very proud to bring you the latest news and updates from Sourcing Bali and our supplier partners.

We take a moment to send our prayers and our best wishes to the families and victims of the Bushfires in Victoria, Australia.  The loss of life, the destruction and devastation has been beyond words.  We hope that the recovery and the rebuild is swift.

In this edition of Sourcing Bali news, we present some new designs from some of our latest suppliers, as well as updates on recent projects, new staff and details of the current economy for us here in Bali.

We thank as always for your most generous support.  Please do not hesitate to contact me if I may be of any assistance at any time.

Warmest regards,
Desmond & Crew

New Products - website

We continue to find new and exciting suppliers in Bali and / or new designs from our existing suppliers.  One of the benefits of buying from Bali is the creativity and ingenuity of the skilled craftspeople.  Whether wood, stone, marble, rattan or artifacts - Bali is rich with resources and skill.

New to our site this month has been as assortment of outdoor and indoor furniture tables, loungers and accessories.  Our site now has over 3000 products and we spend a great deal of time keeping these updated, fresh and relevant.  If you have any comments concerning the items on our site - please dont hesitate to email desmond@sourcing-bali.com

Remember - with the weaker Indonesian rupiah - now is a GREAT time to buy from Indonesia  - the current exchange rate is Rp11.000 - Rp11.900 = US$1.00

Business Trends 2009

We are thankful for the repeat orders and new customers that have been ordering with us in 2009.  We understand that economies everywhere are suffering.  This is having a direct and immediate effect on our business however we are pleased to report that we are doing Ok.

There seem to be a good trend for DIY stores, garden centres, outdoor suppliers, pavers, pebbles - anything associated with gardening or garden decor - there has been a slow down of garments, fashion, and some furniture, however not so for private buyers - we continue to see private buyers coming to Bali to take advantage of the wide range of products, the creativity of designs, the very reasonable prices and the flexability that Bali offers - getting everything at one place.

Sourcing Bali's Personal Shopping Services continue to be strong with private home owners, renovators, builders of 2nd homes or luxury villas in  unique and remote places as Anquilla, Bahamas, Hawaii, Fiji.. Our specialty in this area is with custom made furniture, inbuilt cabinetry, and building materials.  For details email robert@sourcing-bali.com

Pictured is a newly completed private home in Hawaii.  This project took 12 months to complete and was inspired by the Bulgari resort in Bali.

New regulations for New Zealand Customs

Rim Cargo is a 100% subsiduary of Sourcing Bali.  The Directorship if this company is in the name of Robert Sitanggang, Wayan Sanjaya and Sheny Chiang - (co-directors of Sourcing Bali) this is necessary since, in accordance with Indonesian law, an expat is unable to be a Director of more than one company.  We do however operate RIM CARGO with the same high level of service and attention to detail as with Sourcing Bali.

You can learn more about RIM CARGO at www.rimcargo.com  - already in it's 3rd year of operation, RIM CARGO has quickly established a strong reputation in Bali for service excellence. For details email manager@rimcargo.com

SEA CONTAINER QUARANTINE DECLARATIONS

A REMINDER TO INDUSTRY

Sea Containers arriving in New Zealand are required to be accompanied by a Quarantine Declaration.

For the latest information about Quarantine Declarations see:

http://www.biosecurity.govt.nz/border/transitional-facilities/sea-containers/quarantine-declarations-guide.htm

Please note that Australian Packing Declarations are not recognised as being equivalent to New Zealand Quarantine Declarations.

Containers that are not accompanied by a complying Quarantine Declaration are deemed to be non-conforming (i.e. they do not meet New Zealand entry requirements).

Non-conforming containers will be:

  • Externally inspected by MAFBNZ at the port of entry

  • Unpacked under the direct supervision of a MAFBNZ Inspector.

Both of these activities will be cost recovered.

Thanks for your cooperation.

10 December 2008

Effective 4 December 2008,  the ISPM for FCL is to be as the following :

1. All wooden packings must be fumigated  separately  on the floor before they were loaded into  the container.

2.ISPM crews must be given  enough time to inspect and verify  the wooden packagings before they are fumigated.  For wooden crates, the fumigation must be done   prior to being used.  They can not be fumigated in the container together with other non  wooden packaging items.

3. It is suggested to use the wooden packaging that already got Heat Treatment (HT) or already kiln dried in the acknowledged  company.

4. Treated materials VS non treated materials must be put separately.

So all FCL shipments that have wooden packing will have 2 fumigation invoices. One for LCL fumigation for wooden packing and another one for the whole container.  This is like the ETO containers.
