New Regulations for timbers exceeding 20cm diameter

It is important to note that new regulations concerning exportation of timbers larger than 20cm x 20cm x 20cm are now in force.  this new regulation applied to any building materials AND furniture, including trucks / blocks / plinths etc.

Many freight forwarding agencies are not aware of this new ruling, and / or are falsifying records to avoid the charges of the additional kiln drying or fumigation required for these items.

RIM CARGO ensure full compliance with all regulations and thus provides our customers with the peace of mind that all shipments fall within legal requirments and environmental regulations.

The new ruling requires - Oversize refers only to timber items greater than 200mm in length, breadth and depth.

Oversize timber may only be imported into a port approved for this commodity and all consignments of oversize timber not for processing are subject to mandatory inspection and treatment upon arrival.  Consignments must remain under AQIS surveillance until such time as the timber has been treated in accordance with the import conditions. All treatments are done at the importer’s expense.

Additional restrictions apply to oversize timber imported from countries known to be hosts of Giant African Snail, Sudden Oak Death and Pine Pitch Canker.

The current import conditions for oversize timber not for processing can be found on the Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service website on the Import Conditions Database (ICON). Just click on the link – www.aqis.gov.au/icon and search ICON for “Oversize Timber” to find out more.

If you are unable to find the information you require, please do not hesitate to contact AQIS on timber.imports@aqis.gov.au.

Recent projects

Recent projects of Sourcing Bali include luxury homes in Hawaii, British Anquila, private residences in Riyadh, Jeddah, Puerto Vallarta, and many private villas and hotels in remote areas around the world.

One of the keys to our success is our ability to produce custom orders. These can include joinery for kitchens and cupboards, stairways and awnings, mosaics, and stone features, as well as personalised accessories and decorative peices.

In some cases, our customers visit us (and our suppliers) in Bali, however increasingly, orders are done completely by email, without us ever meeting our customers.  In some case, depending on the size and scope of the project - this can take 4-6, even up to 8-10 months to complete.  In the end, we are rewarded with the satisfaction of knowing that a small piece of Bali is proudly installed in some remote corner of the world.

We proudly include a collage of recent projects that the Sourcing Bali / Rim Cargo Crew has helped to supply.

For details on how Sourcing Bali can assist you with your orders from Bali - please email desmond@sourcing-bali.com

Currency Fluctuations

The Indonesian Rupiah has weakened recently against major international currencies and is presently trading between 9300 and 9400 to the US$.  Analysts predict that the Rp will remain at this level for the rest of the year, however as always, Sheny our finance wizard will always update you on any currency changes when communicating about invoices etc.

Our website does include a currency converter on line (once you log in) however if you have any questions about currency conversions, please email sheny@sourcing-bali.com

New Crew

In my last newsletter, I said that we were stopping at 80..but I lied.. we have increased our crew to more than this amount.

Please allow me to introduce the latest members to the SB / RIM / HE family...

Agung joins us as Administration Assistant for Hospitality Essentials.  This young lady was an intern / trainee with us for June and we were so impressed with her work and details, that we offered her a full time posting after her training.  Agung continues to study at nights to complete her tertiary education in Wearness Education Centre.

Sutikno (Tony) has been appointed as one of the packing crew at RIM CARGO - Tony was previously a daily worker (casual employee), however his solid performance and dedication to the team made for an easy selection to the permenant crew.

I Putu Sukawiryawan (Putu) joins us as one of our domestic crew - assisting our other Putu with keeping the house clean...

I Kadek Wijaya (Kd Kowo) has also recently been upgraded from daily worker to permanent packing crew at RIM CARGO.

I Made Ardana has replaced Made Swastika as security guard at RIM. Made S has moved to a government cleaning position with Bali's regional government.  We wish him every success and we give a warm welcome to Made Ardana and all the new crew at SB/HE and RIM.

Ramadan - fasting month

The Moslem fasting month of Ramadan is upon us.  We take this opportunity to wish all of our Moslem friends and family a 'Selamat Hari Raya Idul Fitri' for the end of the fasting month on the 1st and 2nd of October.

Many of our suppliers will be closing operations from 25th September until 6th of October as they return home to celebrate this special occasion with their families.

Due to Ramadhan Holidays, the custom and port will be closed officially from 1 - 4 October 2008. There will be no custom clearance during the week of 29 September. Also the containers can not be moved via inland from Surabaya to Bali for a period of 22 September - 6 October 2008. This is also applied for LCL shipment as cargo trucks are not allowed to be operated during these period.

Our office will be closed 1st and 2nd of October.
