Welcome once again to Sourcing Bali News - our bi-monthly update of suppliers, products and news from Sourcing Bali.

I am pleased to report that our friends at Menega Cafe are now OK and out of the hospital as a result of the tragic bombings at their restaurant.  Life is slowly returning to normal here in Bali.  Arrival numbers slowed, however not nearly as much as 2002.   For Sourcing Bali - our buyers continue to travel, we have had a busy October, and a full schedule for mid-end November.  I take this opportunity to thank you all for your incredible support.

In this edition of Sourcing Bali News - we bring you the latest from PPE (Pameran Produk Ekspor - Export Exhibition).  Four of the Sourcing Bali crew visited Jakarta earlier this month to inspect the latest designs and materials from Indonesia's leading manufacturers and exporters.   

We also take this opportunity to wish our moslem friends all over the world - 'Selamat Hari Raya Idul Fitri' (Eid).  This respresents the final days of the fasting month, a time of reflection and sharing.   All of our moslem suppliers have now closed for the holiday period and will re-open from 10th November.

The PPE exhibition in Jakarta was held 5-9 Oct.  4 of our crew attended the exhibition for 3 days. Meeting with new suppliers and getting updates from existing suppliers. 

We are proud to share some of the highlights of this visit. 

Knock-down rattan furniture - space saving, interesting designs, highest quality.

Combination rattans in natural tones - peeled rattan in simple elegant designs with natural two tone chocolate colourings - very popular at this years show.

Casual tropical and resort style furniture - a new supplier from Jogya for us - we were impressed by the quality and style of this makers rattan chairs and rustic tables.  Very affordable, and flexible with minimum orders. Perfect for the Fiji and island markets.

New and improved UV protected - plastic rattan furniture on aluminium frames - this was popular last year, and there was an increase of good designs and materials at this year's show.  These products are 15-30% more expensive than natural rattan (generally) however these are suitable for outdoor use.

Kitchen equipment - stainless steel benches etc - this is a new line of products for Sourcing Bali to promote.  We were pleased to find this quality supplier of made to order commercial kitchen and hospital equipment.  For further details - email : desmond@sourcing-bali.com

Improved quality RESIN BATHS - these highly polished, high quality resin bathtubs can be made to order to any design.  Priced from US$500 - we are confident that this new supplier will be a great hit with our hotel projects.

Three months later >>>  Villa indah is nearly complete.  After extensive renovations to all rooms, bathrooms, pool, lobby, and gardens - we are pleased to bring you an update on this wonderful little resort in the Ubud Hills.

Sourcing Bali was the appointed designer for the renovations and interiors, as well as supplier of the furnishings and equipment for this 6 roomed, 3 star resort.  We think the change is remarkable !

Villa Indah opens November 15th, 2005.

We say good bye to the first container headed for the Carribean this month.   Sourcing Bali was appointed to oversee the construction of a traditional Balinese Bale (Gazebo) as well as the sourcing of all furnishings and accessories for BAMBOO BERNIES - a refurbished beach club / restaurant on the island of St Maarten.  We look forward to sharing images of the completed project in early 2006.

The Sourcing Bali crew visited this orphanage last week - to distribute shoes which were generously donated by Flight Centre (Australia) with the great help of Brett Morgan of Go Holidays.   

We started working with this institution when I was at Le Meridien in 1998 - over the years, we have raised money to build a new kitchen, new bathrooms, new dining hall, and matresses etc - we moved away after some instances of corruption, however  after a change in management - we have decided to return and offer further assistance.

It was great to see the kids again after so many years !

We did a review of their needs - we asked the kids what they wanted - their response - A basket ball court and Mattresses

SO !!   We need help.  We are seeking donations of money for these kids - we estimate that we need Rp40-50 million to complete the basket ball court, and make repairs to the sewerage system.  (US$5,000)  (Sourcing Bali has donated Rp5.000.000)

ALL Monies received will ONLY be used for this project and NOT given in cash to the institution.  Sourcing Bali will strictly oversee the construction and payment of all building materials and labour.

I am pleased to report that Leo - our Rasta-like driver will be returning to work next week - after a 3 month recovery from a motor bike accident.

The accident caused a severe break in his thigh bone - we look forward to welcoming him back.  Sadly, the hair is gone, but the smile is just as big as ever !
