We are proud to once again bring you news from Sourcing Bali and our supplier partners.

The past few months have been busy in Bali, with an increase in the number of arrivals.  It has been good to see the streets of Seminyak and Legian bustling with tourists from around the world. We look forward to an even busier high season ahead.

In this edition of Sourcing Bali News, we bring you details of new suppliers, new uploads as well as local news affecting your imports.

We take this opportunity to thank you for your most generous support and we look forward to being of service to you again soon.

Warmest regards,
Desmond & Crew

Fuel Price Increases

Effective 26 May, the Indonesian Government reduced fuel subsidies which are paid on gasoline, deisel, and kerosene. This effectively raised the fuel prices throughout the archilepago by 32% overnight.  This has had an immediate effect on the price of raw materials, including petroleum based products, transport, and machined items.

Price increases for products from Bali / Java have already started to occur.  We are trying to keep a limit to the increases and our website is being updated constantly with the changes. At this stage, increases from Suppliers have been in the range of 5-15%.  We will continue to monitor this situation and keep you informed.

Bali-Surabaya transport costs have increased. So too have our collection costs for cargo. A nominal increase of US$15 per 20ft container has been applied to cover the rise in fuel prices. Salaries and wages have also increased at Sourcing Bali / RIM CARGO by 10% in keeping with inflation throughout the country.

Appeals to the Government have been made by some sectors of the business / transport community, however so far no favourable responses have been given.

New premises for Hishem

In this edition of Sourcing Bali News, we are proud to showcase one of our preferred suppliers of Synthetic Rattan from Bali.

Hishem was started in Bali in 1996 in small premises in Kerobokan. Over the past 5 years, Sourcing Bali and others have supported Hishem and witnessed their growth to larger and larger premises.  Recently, Hishem moved into their new home at Jalan Sunset and have expanded their already enourmous range of products.

Hishem has over 100 products in their range and they continue to expand their designs each season. They have an ever increasing choice of materials, textures and colors.

On behalf of all the crew at Sourcing Bali, we congratulate Blaise and all the HISHEM crew on their new move and wish them ongoing success.

Sourcing Bali was chosen to assist with the manufacture of 144 built-in wardrobe and kitchenette units, along with 930 pieces of high end loose furntiure pieces for guest rooms and public areas.

Production for phase 1 has been underway for the past 2 months, and phase 2 has just commenced. We look forward to bringing you news of these exciting projects over the coming months.

Dubai - The Hotel Show

I have just returned from exhibiting at THE HOTEL SHOW in Dubai.  This exhibition showcases the best designs / suppliers from around the world, specialising in hotel installations.

Over the course of the three day exhibition, I met with over 200 potential clients; presenting the newest designs from our Hospitality Essentials range and learning about the boom of Tourism / Hotels that is Dubai.

My last visit to Dubai was in 1999 and nothing was familiar on this visit.  It was reported that 1/3 of the world's cranes are currently in use in the Emirates and it certainly looks like it.

We look forward to sharing news of our (hopeful) success in this boom market -over the coming months.

Believe it, or not - Feng Shui

We recently extended the lease on our offices in Kerobokan until 2015, and since we'll be here for a while yet, we decided to have a Feng Shui reading done.

The visiting Feng Shui Master from Jakarta took three hours to 'read' the energy in our two storey offices.  He made some important recommendations to change the energy flow, including changes to the positions of some desks, adding ceiling panels above our heads, changing walls, removing one unlucky step too many, and moving water features.

We made the changes and.... almost immediately effects were noticable. The energy is certainly bringing a greater sense of warmth to the office, we've also added some colour to the (new ceiling panels) and ....loads of orders came rushing through the doors.

Believe it or not !

Annual Staff Party - May 2008

Each year we get together to celebrate our anniversary  - and this year (7th) the theme of our party was '"2008 Academy Awards for Excellence"

Everyone was asked to nominate their colleagues in 10 different categories ranging from MOST LOYAL, MOST HARD WORKING, MOST CLUMSY, and the person with the most nominations received a trophy and a cash reward.

We rented a well known beach side restaurant for the evening. A Huge Video screen  with projected images of the crew over the past 7 years were shown - (to much laughter). A DJ, dance floor, drag show and a HUGE raffle completed the evening's entertainment, under the stars at the beach !

What will we do to top that next year I wonder ?
