II / VOL 4 - March 2005 Buying Season in full swing

We are proud to once again bring you the latest news from Sourcing Bali and our Supplying partners.

We take this opportunity to wish all of our Balinese Hindu friends and families a Selamat Hari Raya Galungan dan Kuningan - a 10-day celebration of the battle of good over evil.  This colorful festival commences on March 8th, with the decoration of family temples and village streets.

Uniquely, this years celebration also co-incides with the Balinese Hindu day of Silence. Nyepi - March 11th  On the evening preceding Nyepi, the Balinese join in a colourful and noisy parade of giant paper mache effigies of evil spirits and demons.  The noisy parade is designed to awaken the spirits and beckon them to see what the fuss is about, thus, next day, finding the island in absolute darkness and quiet - they then leave the island in peace.

Sourcing Bali offices will be closed March 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12.

Despite the public holidays, the buying season is in full swing, with a record number of Sourcing Bali clients converging on the island at the same time.

We thank you all for your wonderful support.

Best regards
Desmond and the Sourcing Bali Crew

Crating regulations - NEW

For all of our customers shipping to areas within the European Union, please note there are new restrictions on Wooden Packaging Material (must meet the ISPM 15 standard) starting on 1st of March, 2005. This standard is not required by the Indonesian Government, but by the European Union. Therefore, it is compulsory for all shipments to European countries which use Wooden Packaging Material to comply with the ISPM 15 standard.

Additional charges for the Special Treatment of ISPM 15 (FULL CONTAINER) are approx. as follows:

  • 20’ (via Benoa):        USD 150.00/container
  • 20’ (via Inland):         USD 175.00/container
  • 40’/HQ (via Benoa):   USD 210.00/container

For LCL shipment :

  • 1 – 10 cbm:                   USD 110.00/shipment
  • additional after 10 cbm:  USD    7.00/cbm

It does not matter if you only have 1 item in one container that needs to be packed in a wooden crate/box, the whole container/LCL shipment must be treated using ISPM 15.

For your information, other countries will be implementing this regulation as well.

  • USA and Canada will strictly implement ISPM 15 starting September 2005.
  • Australia implemented AQIS 1 year ago. However to fulfill ISPM 15, Australia will need ISPM 15 Marking and Security Control Labeling Fee (USD 2.50/package) and Paper Certificate and Packing Declaration (if required at a cost of USD 10.00/set).
  • Other countries, such as India, South Africa, Philipines have implemented this regulation in January 2005.
